On October 13, 1994, the famous astronomer Carl Sagan was delivering a public lecture at his own university of Cornell. During that lecture, he presented this photo.<\/p>\n

The photo above was taken by Voyager 1 in 1990 as it sailed away from Earth, more than 4 billion miles in the distance. Having completed it primary mission, Voyager at that time was on its way out of the Solar System, on a trajectory of approximately 32 degrees above the plane of the Solar System. Ground Control issued a command for the distant space craft to turn around and, looking back, take photos of each of the planets it had visited. From Voyager’s vast distance, the Earth was captured as a infinitesimal point of light (between the two white tick marks), actually smaller than a single pixel of the photo. The image was taken with a narrow angle camera lens, with the Sun quite close to the field of view. Quite by accident, the Earth was captured in one of the scattered light rays caused by taking the image at an angle so close to the Sun. Dr. Sagan was quite moved by this image of our tiny world.<\/p>\n

From this distant vantage point the earth might not seem of any particular interest, but for us it\u2019s different. Consider again that dot. That\u2019s here. That\u2019s home. That\u2019s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every \u201csuperstar\u201d, every \u201csupreme leader\u201d, every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there \u2013 on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.<\/p>\n

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.<\/p>\n

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe:, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.<\/p>\n

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbour life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.<\/p>\n

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we\u2019ve ever known.<\/p>\n

Este post \u00e9 para todos os humanos que precisam despertar antes que n\u00e3o haja mais tempo de reverter os danos que a humanidade vem causando ao planeta e a todas as formas de vidas, inclusive a nossa, fazendo com que a ra\u00e7a humana caminhe a passos largos para a extin\u00e7\u00e3o, levando junto incont\u00e1veis esp\u00e9cies para o esquecimento.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mas \u00e9 tamb\u00e9m para pessoas superficiais, consumistas, a exemplo daquele comentarista arrogante, anta, pav\u00e3o… que n\u00e3o entendeu meu discurso e me chamou de “a louca que estava esperando contato com a nave m\u00e3e.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Pois bem, e<\/span>sta \u00e9 a nave m\u00e3e, seu pseudo jornalista desconhecedor dos problemas planet\u00e1rios, a espa\u00e7onave que nos leva rumo ao desconhecido, que est\u00e1 cheia de passageiros como voc\u00ea que nasceram para fazer nada, s\u00f3 para consumir recursos naturais e alimentar seu ego.<\/span><\/p>\n

Esta \u00e9 a nave m\u00e3e em que faltam tripulantes para manter e reparar a espa\u00e7onave, tripulantes como eu e outros como eu, que poderiam mudar o destino da humanidade, mas que os passageiros como voc\u00ea impedem, com seu consumismo, com sua estupidez, com seu ego\u00edsmo, porque sabem que a mudan\u00e7a vai afetar se estilo de vida superficial, sem sentido.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quanto ao contato com outras esp\u00e9cies, bem, se estamos sendo observados e eles vigiarem a vidinha sem sentido dos 99,9%… v\u00e3o ter certeza de que n\u00e3o existe vida inteligente no planeta para fazer contato.<\/span><\/p>\n

Acordem, mudem, ou voc\u00eas ser\u00e3o extintos, junto com a pequena parcela da humanidade que se importa, que age, mas que est\u00e1 em desvantagem num\u00e9rica. Somos 0,1% de tripulantes e voc\u00eas s\u00e3o 99,9% de passageiros,voc\u00eas est\u00e3o dificultando muito o nosso trabalho a ponto de eu achar que n\u00e3o conseguiremos reverter o destino da humanidade, antes que seja tarde demais, antes que sejamos extintos.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
