Foi publicado na \u00faltima edi\u00e7\u00e3o da revista cient\u00edfica\u00a0Science<\/em>\u00a0o estudo mais abrangente at\u00e9 agora em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 pr\u00e1tica do\u00a0reflorestamento.<\/section>\n

A pesquisa, realizada por cientistas do laborat\u00f3rio Crowther, da Su\u00ed\u00e7a, foi a primeira a quantificar quantas \u00e1rvores a Terra consegue suportar, al\u00e9m de estipular onde seria melhor plant\u00e1-las e de estimar quanto di\u00f3xido de carbono essas plantas poderiam armazenar.De acordo com os resultados obtidos, cerca de 25% dos n\u00edveis de carbono da atmosfera seria retirado do ar se o reflorestamento atingisse seu \u00e1pice. A \u00faltima vez em que esses n\u00edveis foram registrados no planeta j\u00e1 faz quase um s\u00e9culo \u2014 desde ent\u00e3o, os n\u00fameros s\u00e3o crescentes.O plantio \u00e9 uma \u00f3tima forma de diminuir os n\u00edveis de g\u00e1s carb\u00f4nico de um ambiente, uma vez que, durante o processo de fotoss\u00edntese, elas \u201cpuxam\u201d CO2 do ar. O g\u00e1s \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por grande parte do aquecimento global e das demais mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, e sua presen\u00e7a em excesso pode ser muito danosa \u00e0 natureza.<\/p>\n

Por meio da an\u00e1lise de quase 80 mil florestas e das imagens dispon\u00edveis no Google Earth, os pesquisadores geraram um modelo que prev\u00ea a potencial cobertura verde que as plantas proporcionariam ao planeta \u2014 o chamado \u00e1pice do reflorestamento.<\/p>\n

A conclus\u00e3o foi de que a Terra conseguiria suportar 900 milh\u00f5es de hectares de \u00e1rvores, as quais, quando maduras, sequestrariam cerca de dois ter\u00e7os de todo o carbono emitido pela atividade humana. Grande parte da capacidade de suportar essas novas \u00e1rvores est\u00e1 concentrada em seis pa\u00edses: R\u00fassia, Estados Unidos, Canad\u00e1, Austr\u00e1lia, Brasil e China.<\/p>\n

Segundo os cientistas, o estudo claramente comprova que o reflorestamento \u00e9 atualmente a melhor solu\u00e7\u00e3o para reverter as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas.<\/p>\n

No entanto, as a\u00e7\u00f5es devem ser urgentes. Segundo o artigo, a extens\u00e3o das \u00e1reas em que o reflorestamento \u00e9 poss\u00edvel depende diretamente do clima e da temperatura.<\/p>\n

Assim, se at\u00e9 2050 a temperatura global subir \u201capenas\u201d 1,5\u00b0C (que \u00e9 o objetivo atual das grandes na\u00e7\u00f5es), o territ\u00f3rio dispon\u00edvel para o replantio seria 20% menor do que o de hoje.<\/p>\n
