Isso tamb\u00e9m dificulta a forma\u00e7\u00e3o do gelo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;Os \u00faltimos 14 anos, de 2007 a 2020, s\u00e3o os 14 anos com menor congelamento mostrados nos registros de sat\u00e9lites a partir de 1979\u201d, disse Walt Meier, pesquisador s\u00eanior do Centro de Dados de Neve e Gelo dos Estados Unidos. Conforme ele, grande parte do antigo gelo do \u00c1rtico est\u00e1 desaparecendo, deixando um gelo sazonal mais fino. No geral, a espessura m\u00e9dia \u00e9 a metade do que era na d\u00e9cada de 1980.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A tend\u00eancia de queda deve continuar at\u00e9 que o \u00c1rtico tenha seu primeiro ver\u00e3o sem gelo, disse Meier. Os dados e modelos sugerem que isso ocorrer\u00e1 entre 2030 e 2050. \u201c\u00c9 uma quest\u00e3o de quando, e n\u00e3o se ir\u00e1 acontecer\u201d, acrescentou.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Cientistas temem que o congelamento retardado possa ampliar os efeitos que aceleram o decl\u00ednio do gelo marinho. J\u00e1 \u00e9 bem sabido que uma \u00e1rea menor de gelo significa menos \u00e1rea branca para refletir o calor do sol de volta ao espa\u00e7o. Mas esta n\u00e3o \u00e9 a \u00fanica raz\u00e3o pela qual o \u00c1rtico est\u00e1 esquentando mais de duas vezes mais r\u00e1pido que a m\u00e9dia global.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O mar de Laptev \u00e9 conhecido como o local de nascimento do gelo, que se forma ao longo da costa no in\u00edcio do inverno, depois se desloca para o oeste levando nutrientes pelo \u00c1rtico, antes de se quebrar na primavera no estreito de Fram, entre a Groenl\u00e2ndia e Svalbard.\u00a0Se o gelo se formar no final do Laptev, ser\u00e1 mais fino e, portanto, mais propenso a derreter antes de chegar ao Estreito de Fram.\u00a0Isso pode significar menos nutrientes para o pl\u00e2ncton \u00e1rtico, que ter\u00e1 ent\u00e3o uma capacidade reduzida de retirar o di\u00f3xido de carbono da atmosfera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Mais mar aberto tamb\u00e9m significa mais turbul\u00eancia na camada superior do oceano \u00c1rtico, que retira mais \u00e1gua quente das profundezas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O Dr. Stefan Hendricks, especialista em f\u00edsica do gelo marinho no Instituto Alfred Wegener, disse que as tend\u00eancias do gelo marinho s\u00e3o sombrias, mas n\u00e3o surpreendentes. \u201c\u00c9 mais frustrante do que chocante.
